In a groundbreaking move for the cruise industry, Albatros Expeditions is set to launch the first-ever halal-certified cruise to Antarctica in January 2026. This 10-day voyage will take travelers on an unforgettable journey through the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula, providing a unique opportunity for Muslim travelers to explore one of the world’s most remote and pristine environments while adhering to Islamic dietary laws and cultural practices.

Jens Rasmussen, COO and Board Member of the Albatros Group expressed his excitement, “We are very proud to be the first movers in the Polar Industry to launch a new, exciting expedition adventure. We have always been innovative, exploring new products and ideas inspired by our team, partners, and guests. This is an exciting milestone for us to launch the first Halal-certified cruise to Antarctica. Big thanks to the team behind the project, and Rashidah Lim for her great work making this idea a reality.”

The project is led by Southeast Asia Business Development Manager Rashidah Lim, an industry veteran and the polar industry’s only female Muslim Expedition Leader. She has worked closely with Johanna from Marketing, Sara from Middle East Business Development, and Product Managers Janina and Steffan to bring this groundbreaking idea to fruition.

The Ocean Albatros, a purpose-built ice-class vessel, will host the voyage. With 94 comfortable staterooms and suites, the ship features Muslim-friendly amenities, including an alcohol-free environment and halal-certified dining. The meals will comply with Islamic dietary laws, accredited by CrescentRating. Additionally, the cruise will offer daily ladies-only hours in the onboard sauna, allowing female guests to enjoy panoramic views of the Antarctic sea ice in comfort and privacy.

The journey will begin in Ushuaia, Argentina, navigating the challenging Drake Passage to arrive in Antarctica on the third day. Travelers will experience breathtaking sights, from exploring penguin rookeries and historical sites to scenic Zodiac cruises amidst icebergs, whales, and seals. The vessel’s unique X-Bow design provides exceptional stability, maximizing time spent in the awe-inspiring Antarctic environment.

This pioneering venture by Albatros Expeditions is more than just a cruise; it is a commitment to cultural understanding, inclusivity, and responsible travel. “While travelers with other religious identities are welcome to join this unforgettable adventure, the Muslim-friendly environment means no pork or alcohol will be served. Guests are also not allowed to bring outside food or beverages on board,” emphasized Rasmussen.

The cruise promises an intimate experience, with an average occupancy of just 175 guests, ensuring personalized service and comfort. From the vessel’s design to the engaging lectures and activities led by the expedition team, this voyage promises a truly remarkable adventure.
