Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that playing in Madrid was the happiest time of his career. The Portuguese star footballer, who will turn 40 tomorrow, was interviewed by the Spanish television show Los Amigos de Edu, on Monday. He is currently playing in Saudi Arabia after record-breaking spells at Lisbon, Old Trafford, Madrid, and Turin.
Ronaldo had an abrupt ending with the Spanish Giants. Talking to the journalist, Madrid’s top scorer admitted to being in love with his former side and said he has a lot of fond memories with the famous white shirt. “Spain is my Home, my children grew there,” he said.
Ronaldo admitted to being in the twilight of his career, and new stars are shining on the biggest stage of football. "I did some really nice things, and people don't forget. The younger kids watch me on YouTube; I keep scoring, my celebrations... people get involved.”
“I get home, and Mateo is watching YouTube, watching players. He likes [Jude] Bellingham, he likes [Eduardo] Camavinga, [Kylian] Mbappe; he teases me by saying that he's better than me."
Ronaldo also said that he is "the most complete player to have existed," though he respects the opinions of fans of other stars like Messi, Maradona, and Pele. The five-time Balon D'Or winner said his stats are the proof why he is the best. "Who's the best goal scorer in history? It's about numbers. Full stop," said Ronaldo.
"One thing is taste—if you like Messi, Pelé, Maradona, I understand that and I respect that—but saying Ronaldo isn't complete... I'm the most complete. I haven't seen anybody better than me, and I say it from the heart."
When asked about retirement, Ronaldo said he isn’t thinking about that yet as he is feeling great in the moment and can play for a while. "I'm so competitive that sometimes I forget what I've achieved," he said, "Because it gives me motivation to do more and do better every year.”
Ronaldo also talked about his sudden departure from the club, stating Real Madrid "didn't behave well with him." However, he didn’t rule out a move back to Santiago Bernabéu, saying it would be a perfect end to his career if he could come back.
