Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced today that the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC) and its affiliated entities are prohibited from proceeding with the construction of their proposed development.

According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), EPIC has failed to secure the necessary permits and authorizations, making any construction activity illegal under state law.

TCEQ has issued an official notice to EPIC, requiring them to confirm within seven days that they have ceased all construction efforts. Governor Abbott warned that failure to comply would result in strict legal enforcement.

“The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality found that the group behind the proposed EPIC compound did not submit the required permits to begin construction,” Abbott stated. “They must confirm within seven days that they are immediately ceasing any construction of their illegal project or face the full weight of the law.”

The state has launched multiple investigations into EPIC and its affiliates, citing potential legal violations, including:

  1. A Texas Rangers probe into alleged criminal activities.
  2. A Texas Workforce Commission inquiry into potential discrimination under the Texas Fair Housing Act.
  3. A Texas State Securities Board investigation into possible financial misconduct.
  4. A Texas Funeral Service Commission cease-and-desist order against unauthorized funeral services. An Attorney General’s investigation into potential consumer protection violations.

The Governor emphasized that protecting Texas communities from unlawful activities remains a priority. Last week, his office revealed that over a dozen state agencies were reviewing EPIC’s operations. As legal scrutiny intensifies, the fate of the proposed development remains uncertain.
